There have been several major changes to the pantry over the past few months. We installed a new heat-and air-conditioning unit to replace the original dinosaur that was there. But the biggest change we made was adding the new (to us) walk-in freezer box. Having this giant freezer will allow us to take advantage of many large donations without using the freezer space of the Logan Supermarket and the Bright Market. Both businesses have been extremely generous, but it was time for us to invest in a freezer of our
own. Several local businesses along with many volunteers spent countless
Area students have also been busy collecting thousands of canned goods during recent food drives. Without this food, our shelves would not be nearly as full as they are now. Last year at this time we were servicing approximately 150 families; our count is now more than 240.
Food boxes were given to all of our families in November and In December, approximately 60 women who are patrons of the pantry received a day of pampering. Hair stylists from several area salons helped out, including: Kim Craig and Deanna Johnson from Kelly's; Janet Batta,Kelly Mills, and Lisa Fox from Extreme Definition; Dionne Shank from the soon-to open Chop Shop; Brittany Wagner from The Parlour; Kathy Mercer and Mary Lee from J McQueens; and Patty Rifner. They treated the women to a free hair cut and style. Tammy Edgerton provided a chair massage and Nikki Kaufman, and her daughter Nolynn and friend Maddie were among those who performed manicures.
Thanks to all who this past year participated in a local food drive, threw change in a Pennies For the Pantry bucket, volunteered at the pantry, made a cash or merchandise donation, or pulled a tag off an Angel Tree. Without your continued support of the Pantry and our projects we would not be able to handle the number of people in our area who need a little help right now.
